A Day in Summer

A Day in Summer is the first novel by J. L. Carr, published in 1963. The story is set in the fictional village of Great Minden on the day of its annual Feast (or fair) where RAF veteran Peplow arrives to seek retribution for the death of his son. A film version of the novel was made in 1989, with screenplay by Alan Plater and starring Peter Egan, Jack Shepherd, John Sessions, Jill Bennett, Ian Carmichael and Daragh O'Malley. The novel is now published by The Quince Tree Press, the publishing house established by Carr to publish his maps and small books.
