Its largest settlement is the Village of Bath, which has an area of 2.9 sq mi (7.5 km2) and a population of 5,641 (in 2000). The Town is located in the central part of the county, northwest of Elmira, New York. The Town (and Village) are either named after the city in England or after Lady Bath, daughter of a landowner.
