Big John Bates (Gretsch guitars, mandolin, banjo, vocals) currently performs in the Big John Bates: Noirchestra project; creating dark, post-rock'n'roll with elements of psychedelia. The band uniquely incorporates strings with Höfner upright bassist Brandy Bones, Requiemily on violin and Ty-Ty the Saviour (Rich Sticks) on timpani, percussion and trap kit. Their live shows and sonic qualities have been compared to Nick Cave and Siouxsie Sioux with Jello Biafra stating of the first EP "Headless Fowl is extremely cool" (and including the band in his Alternative Tentacles catalog).
