It was included on her first album La voix du bon Dieu. Its lyrics were written, and its music composed, in collaboration, by Dion, her mother Thérèse Dion, and her brother Jacques Dion. On June 19, 1981 Dion made her first broadcast appearance. She performed "Ce n'était qu'un rêve" in a very popular talk-show in Quebec hosted by Michel Jasmin.
