European Market Infrastructure Regulation

The European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) is a body of European legislation for the regulation of over-the-counter derivatives. It was originally adopted by the European Commission on July 4, 2012 and came into force on August 16, 2012. Its full technical standards were adopted by the Commission on December 19, 2012 and came into effect on March 15, 2013. The regulations include requirements for reporting of derivative contracts and implementation of risk management standards. It established common rules for central counterparties and trade repositories.
