George Stephenson's Birthplace

George Stephenson's Birthplace is the 18th-century stone cottage home of rail pioneer George Stephenson. Located along the north bank of the River Tyne in the village of Wylam, Northumberland, the cottage is owned by the National Trust and is open to the public as a historic house museum. The house also features exhibits about Stephenson's Rocket, an early steam locomotive. The Museum is open to the public throughout the year - March to October (Thursday-Sunday) and November to February (Saturday-Sunday). It is also open on Bank Holiday Mondays and has a small tearoom.
