The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent two weeks at #1 (May 10-17) on the Cashbox Singles Chart in the U.S. It was also a hit internationally: #2 in Canada, #9 in New Zealand, #10 in South Africa, and #27 in Australia. in 1975. The song was sung by the group's drummer, Larry Lee. AM & Shawn Lee recorded a cover of "Jackie Blue" for their 2011 album Celestial Electric.
