Kamakwie

Kamakwie is a small town in Bombali District in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. The population of the town was over 8,098 in 2006 estimate . The population of Kamakwie is predominantly from the Limba, Temne, and Loko ethnic groups. Kamakwie was a scene of heavy fighting between Nigerian-lead Ecomog troops and the Revolutionary United Front (RUF); up to 15 people were killed, 90 houses were burned down, and several people had their arms or legs amputated apparently in attacks by the RUF.
