Founded in 1973, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin is one of the oldest state affiliates in the Libertarian Party, and is notable for the 2002 candidacy of Ed Thompson for Governor of Wisconsin. The brother of Tommy Thompson and the Mayor of Tomah, Wisconsin, Thompson received over 10% of the vote, a record for a Libertarian gubernatorial candidate running against both a Democratic and Republican candidate.
