The Lisbon Academy of Sciences (Portuguese: Academia das Ciências de Lisboa) was created on 24 December 1779 in Lisbon, Portugal, as an institution dedicated to the advancement of science and learning (particularly mathematics in Portugal) with the goal of promoting academic progress and prosperity to the country. Domenico Vandelli was among its mentors and early organizers.
