—In the BIONICLE universe, Kanohi are masks that grant their wearers specific powers. Various types of Kanohi exist, including Matoran, Noble, Great, Nuva, and Legendary Kanohi. Matoran Masks are powerless but are vital to the survival of the Matoran, who will slip into a coma if they go without wearing one for an extended period of time. Noble Masks can be used by Turaga and are less powerful than the Great Masks, which are used commonly by Toa. Legendary Masks are the most powerful Kanohi and are much more difficult to control than other Kanohi.
