Mississippi Civil Rights Museum
The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum is a proposed museum to be built in Jackson, Mississippi. Its mission is to document, exhibit the history of, and educate the public about the American Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. state of Mississippi between 1945 and 1970. The museum secured $20 million in funding from the Mississippi Legislature in April 2011 after Governor Haley Barbour testified in favor of its funding. Ground was broken in 2013 and it is scheduled to open in 2017, the bicentennial celebration of Mississippi statehood.
