Mobberley Approved School

Mobberley Approved School, Knoll Green Knutsford was established by Manchester City Council in 1936. It accommodated 104 boys from age 13 to 15 on admission. James Alexander was the headmaster. He was also editor of the Approved Schools Gazette and a boxing enthusiast. The school participated in boxing, football, table tennis, cross country and cricket competitions. In 1953 Alexander was elected President of the Association of Headmasters, Headmistresses and Matrons of Approved Schools.
