NAM NAADU (English: OUR COUNTRY) is a 1969 Tamil movie starring M.G.R and Jayalalitha. It is a remake of the Telugu hit KATHANAYAKUDU, starring N.T.R. and also Jayalalitha. After the phenomenal success of ENGA VEETTU PILLAI produced by the legendary producer B.Nagi Reddy, MGR told the former that he wanted to make a film to find out how people would react to his entry into politics. Reddy suggested remaking the Telugu hit, KATHANAYAKUDU, which featured N.T.Rama Rao, released on 27 February 1969 . MGR agreed. NAM NAADU was made! The movie was also as inspiration for 2nd half of 1991 Kannada movie Bharjari Gandu.
