Shooter was a 1988 TV pilot that NBC decided not to pick up as a series. Instead NBC aired the pilot as a TV movie of the week.The film is based on the book "Shooter" by and about Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer David Hume Kennerly. Kennerly had been a combat photo journalist during the Vietnam War. Later he was the White House photographer for president Gerald Ford.The Shooter film followed the adventures of a fictional photo journalist Matt Thompson in Vietnam played by Jeffrey Nordling, in his debut role.The TV pilot was made shortly after Good Morning Vietnam that had been a hit in theaters, and the TV film borrowed two actors from the Good Morning Vietnam cast, Noble Willingham and Cu Ba Nguyen, as well as having a free-spirited protagonist who is constantly clashing with his supe
