Silesian University in Opava should not be confused with a similarly named university in Polish-administered part of Silesia (University of Silesia in Katowice, Katowice). The Silesian University in Opava (Slezská univerzita v Opavě) is a university offering tertiary education and having public legal status (in Czech only). It was established by the law (Nr. 314/1991 - in Czech only) passed by the Czech National Council on July 9, 1991.
