Stillfried Castle

Stillfried Castle (Polish: Zamek Stillfriedów) - the former residence of the aristocratic Stillfried family, whose members were barons, built at the end of the 14th century, however the earliest record of the castle comes from 1352. The castle was burned down by the Hussites. The residence was expanded into a castle in 536-1550, 1593, 1633–1645 and 1675–1677, during the ownership of the Stillfrieds. The current square formation was built in between 1700 and 1730 to the design of the famous Italian architect Andrea Carove. During which the tower was deconstructed. The castle was largely reconstructed in 1796; when the castle's defences and nearby living quarters were deconstructed. The castle changed owners up until 1819, when the residence was used as an Evangelist rectory up until 1868. S
