Turkish Kurdistan

Turkish Kurdistan or Northern Kurdistan (Kurdish: Bakurê Kurdistanê‎ or Kurdistana Tirkiyê, Turkish: Türkiye Kürdistanı) refers to portions of Turkey's Eastern Anatolia Region and Southeastern Anatolia Region where Kurds form the predominant ethnic group. This unofficial term references the region's geographical and historical location with respect to the larger Kurdish region. Historically, its northern area was part of Armenia, but after centuries of inward migration by Kurdish tribes and because of the Armenian Genocide during World War One, very few Armenians now live in the area.
