USS Benham (DD-796)

USS Benham (DD-796), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for Rear Admiral Andrew E. K. Benham (1832–1905). Benham was launched on 30 August 1943 by Bethlehem Steel Company, Staten Island, New York; sponsored by Mrs. Harold Benham, wife of a grandson of Rear Admiral Benham; and commissioned on 20 December 1943, Commander Erle V. Dennet in command.
