USS Charles S. Sperry

USS Charles S. Sperry (DD-697), an Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer, was named for Charles Stillman Sperry, the commanding officer of Yorktown. Sperry would later attain the rank of Rear Admiral. Charles S. Sperry was launched 13 March 1944 by Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Kearny, New Jersey; sponsored by Miss M. Sperry; commissioned 17 May 1944, Commander H. H. McIlhenny in command; and reported to the Pacific Fleet.
