USS Pivot (AM-276)

USS Pivot (AM-276), an Admirable-class minesweeper, was the first ship of the United States Navy named Pivot. She was built at the Gulf Shipbuilding Corporation, Chickasaw, Alabama. Mrs. Clara L. Prouty christened Pivot on 11 November 1943. Her trials started 12 July 1944 in the Gulf of Mexico and initial training was in the Chesapeake Bay. She supported Admiral Marc Mitscher's Fast Carrier Task Force during the deadly strikes against Japan in July and operated in Korean waters after Japan's surrender. She returned to Okinawa late in October and resumed sweeping operations in the Ryukyus.
