United States women's national basketball team

The United States women's national basketball team are the defending Olympic and World champions in women's basketball. The team is composed of some of the top American players in the WNBA and the women's college tournaments. The team has won eight Olympic gold medals and nine FIBA world championships, and did not lose an international match between 1994 and 2006. However, with longtime leaders Dawn Staley, Lisa Leslie, and Teresa Edwards absent, they lost to Russia in the semifinal of the 2006 world championship, eventually settling for the bronze.
