Second-seeded Ivan Lendl beat John McEnroe in a close five set match 3–6, 2–6, 6–4, 7–5, 7–5 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1984 French Open. Yannick Noah was the defending champion, but lost to Mats Wilander in the quarterfinals.
