Unseeded & former World No. 1 Kim Clijsters of Belgium won the title, didn't lose a set during entire tournament, over Russian second-seeded teenager Maria Sharapova. Clijsters became the second woman ever to achieve the Sunshine Double, only after Steffi Graf.
