Serena Williams defeated Garbiñe Muguruza 6–4, 6–4, to win the Ladies' Singles tennis title at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships. Petra Kvitová was the defending champion, but was defeated by Jelena Janković in the third round. Williams also achieved her second non-calendar year Grand Slam after winning the 2014 US Open, 2015 Australian Open and 2015 French Open Also, this was the first time since 2002 that a player completed the 'Channel Slam' (winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year), Serena herself being the last player to do so.
