Ali al-Tamimi

Ali Al-Tamimi (also Ali Al-Timimi; born December 14, 1963 in Washington, DC) is a former biologist, and Islamic teacher from Fairfax County, Virginia, who was convicted of soliciting treason and aiding the Taliban, and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2005. He has been described as "arguably the first American born activist Salafi preacher." Incarcerated for more than a decade at the administrative maximum security United States Penitentiary ADX Florence, Colorado, his case is still on direct appeal, and in 2020 he was given a conditional release into home confinement as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic while his case is reviewed by the 4th circuit.
