Anita Ellis (singer)

Anita Ellis (née Kert; April 12, 1920 – October 28, 2015) was a Canadian-born American singer and actress. Ellis possessed a voice that audiences fell in love with. She famously dubbed Rita Hayworth in Gilda, and it is her that can be heard singing in the film, not Hayworth. This was not known to the public as Ellis was not properly credited by the studio who wanted audiences to believe it was Rita Hayworth singing. Her voice became perhaps the most famous voice of the 1940s.
