The attempted acquisition of Tribune Media by Sinclair Broadcast Group was a broadcast media transaction that would have seen Hunt Valley, Maryland-based television station owner Sinclair Broadcast Group acquire Chicago-based broadcasting and digital media company Tribune Media, a deal which was officially announced on May 8, 2017, after months of speculation. The deal, had it been successful, would have resulted in Sinclair (already the largest television broadcaster in the United States) having stations available in 72% of all households with a television set in the United States.
