Bill Meates (rugby union)

William Anthony Meates (26 May 1923 – 1 February 2003) was a New Zealand rugby union player, soldier and school teacher. He was born in Greymouth in 1923, and was an elder brother of Kevin Meates. He received his education at Marist Brothers' School and at St Bede's College in Christchurch. A wing three-quarter, Bill Meates represented Canterbury and Otago at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, in 1949 and 1950. He played 20 matches for the All Blacks including seven internationals.
