Buumi (many variations : Buumy, Bumy, Bumi, etc.) was a Wolof royal title from the Jolof empire. This title as well as much of Wolof political and social structures were borrowed by the Serer kingdoms of Sine and Saloum which used to be vassals of the Jolof empire. This Wolof title of “Bummi” was used in the Serer pre-colonial Kingdoms of Sine, Saloum and previously Baol. All these pre-colonial Serer kingdoms are now part of modern-day Senegal.
