It is known as one of the most frequently hybridizing species of Carex, forming hybrids with C. appropinquata, C. arenaria, C. brizoides, C. canescens, C. divulsa, C. echinata, , C. otrubae, C. ovalis, C. paniculata, and C. spicata.
