Cees den Heyer

Cornelis Jacobus "Cees" den Heyer (6 April 1942 – 31 March 2021) was a Dutch theologian and academic. Den Heyer was born in Scheveningen and raised in Barendrecht. He was mainly in the news through the publication of his book on the atonement in Christianity, as to how it is established as dogma from classical Christology. After research he came to the conclusion that in his opinion the doctrine of atonement as set out in the dogmatics of the (Orthodox) Protestant churches would be inconsistent with the texts in the New Testament Gospels. In particular, the dogma of the atoning meaning of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ would not be found in the Biblical writings. This was criticized by others.
