Darkie Hutton

Envoy Richard 'Darkie’ Hutton (1849 – 1921) was a reformed criminal and former member of the Charles Peace gang who spent 23 years in prison before he was converted and became an evangelist and Officer in The Salvation Army. Because he was undersize and swarthy, Hutton was given the nickname ‘Darkie’. Huttton had been a thief from the age of eight when he stole a 1 lb weight from his tobacconist employer and sold it for a penny. Envoy ’Darkie’ Hutton conducted many great soul-saving campaigns until he was Promoted to Glory in 1921.
