Guy Maxwell

Guy Maxwell (Seneca adopted name, Ta-ce-wa.ya.se; 15 July 1770, Ireland - 23 Feb 1814) was an Irish-born American pioneer. He was the first Internal Revenue Officer of the Elmira, New York region, and served as sheriff of Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He was the father and founder of the Maxwell family. Maxwell became the first Internal Revenue Officer of that region. He was also sheriff of Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He achieved local distinction in many other ways. In the War of 1812, the embargo brought disaster to many of his undertakings. Maxwell died less than 44 years of age, in 1814.
