Gypsy is the soundtrack to the 1993 television adaptation of Gypsy. Based on the autobiography of Gypsy Rose Lee, this television film of the 1959 musical Gypsy: A Musical Fable, written by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, depicts the life and times of a burlesque stripper and her domineering mother. The soundtrack album was released in 1993 and features Bette Midler starring as Mama Rose. Midler's performance earned her a Golden Globe Award in 1994 for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or a TV Film. Gypsy also received an unprecedented twelve Emmy nominations.
