Jan Herberts

Jan Herberts (2 September 1926 – 3 September 1944) was a Dutch resistance fighter and footballer for Vitesse. Herberts was born in Elst in 1926. He went to the Mulo school in Arnhem. He was a footballer at Vitesse. During World War II he formed a small resistance group with friends. On 30 August 1944, Herberts was arrested with his grandparents after a failed attack on a German soldier earlier that day, in which he had taken part. He was detained at Herzogenbusch concentration camp, where he was executed a day after his 18th birthday. Herberts was the youngest person to be shot at the execution site of Herzogenbusch concentration camp.
