Lukáš Pohůnek

Lukáš Pohůnek (born 24 October 1988, Žilina, former Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak conductor and trumpet player. He began his musical career as a child prodigy. At 13, he performed as a soloist with the Slovak Philharmonic, the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic under the baton of Jakub Hrůša. Beginning in 2009 he studied conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Leos Swarowsky. During his studies, he participated in master classes at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana with Gianluigi Gelmetti as well as in Valencia with George Pehlivanian. He has conducted many major symphony orchestras in Europe and achieved excellent reviews. He was assistant to Oliver von Dohnányi.
