Pintados

Pintados, from the Spanish word Pintado meaning painted or inked. The term used by Spanish colonists to describe the tattooed indigenous Sebwano people and Waray people. They were found on the islands of Cebu, Bohol, eastern part of Negros, Leyte, and Samar in the Biçayas (Visayas) region of the Philippines. The word itself means "painted" or "inked" (ink from squid black oil and was pinned to skin using a fishbone of "panit", a waray word for a variety of fish) , and was first used during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines. Tintadus inking or tattoeing had been a tradition long before "keresone" the source of Black Powder "agiw" had been in used around the Philippines.
