Portmanteau (mail)
A portmanteau (/pɔːrtˈmæntoʊ/ , /ˌpɔːrtmænˈtoʊ/; plural portmanteaux or portmanteaus) was a traveling bag (suitcase style) used as a mailbag. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, both newspapers and letters were transported in these leather mailbags that opened into two sections.
