The recovery of US human remains from the Korean War has continued since the end of the war. More than 36,000 American troops died during the Korean War (1950–1953). As of 2019, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency describes more than 7,800 Americans as "unaccounted for" from the Korean War. The United States Armed Forces estimates that 5,300 of these troops went missing in North Korea.
