Roger Ries

Roger Ries (born 30 November 1951) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1970s and early 1980s. He played as striker. Ries joined Basel's first team in for their 1972–73 season under head-coach Helmut Benthaus. After one test match Ries played his debut for the club in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium on 17 December 1972 in the Swiss Cup quarter-final as Basel played against Chiasso. He scored his first goal for his club in the same game as Basel won 5–3. It was the first goal of the match. Ries played his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 11 March 1973 as Basel played a goalless draw against Servette.
