On Thursday, January 31, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI appointed the Reverend Father Jonas Dembélé, up until then serving (as a member of the clergy of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San in San, Mali) as a Pastor and as Secretary of the , as the Bishop-elect of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kayes, in Kayes, Mali, succeeding Bishop Joseph Dao, who retired in 2011.
