Sclerorhynchidae

Sclerorhynchidae is an extinct family of cartilaginous fish from the Cretaceous and Paleogene belonging to the order Rajiformes, which also contains extant skates. Despite their close appearance to extant sawfish (Pristidae), the two are not closely related, with sawfish being instead grouped with guitarfish in the order Rhinopristiformes. The genera Ischyrhiza, Onchopristis, and Schizorhiza were formerly considered members of this group, but evidence indicates that they form an unnamed sister group to Rajidae and are distinct from Sclerorhynchidae.
