The headwaters are at 39°15′21″N 91°09′37″W / 39.25583°N 91.16028°W and the confluence is at 39°09′32″N 91°07′24″W / 39.15889°N 91.12333°W. Sulphur Creek was so named on account of nearby sulphur-impregnated springs.
