Thomas M. Browne

Thomas McLelland Browne (April 19, 1829 – July 17, 1891) was a U.S. Representative from Indiana. Born in New Paris, Ohio, Browne moved to Indiana in January 1844. He attended the common schools. He moved to Winchester, Indiana, in 1848. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1849 and commenced practice in Winchester. Browne was elected prosecuting attorney for the thirteenth judicial circuit in 1855 and was reelected in 1857 and 1859. He was named Secretary of the Indiana State Senate in 1861, and he served as a member of the state senate in 1863.
