United Nations Security Council Resolution 649

United Nations Security Council resolution 649, adopted unanimously on 12 March 1990, after noting a report of the secretary-general on a recent meeting between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus and recalling Resolution 367 (1975), the council expressed its regret that, in the 25 years since the establishment of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, a solution to the situation has not been found. Resolution 649 requested the Secretary-General to make suggestions to both leaders to solve the situation and report back on the progress of the discussions by 31 May 1990.
