The station is owned by the Chicago-based Graham Media Group subsidiary of Graham Holdings Company. WSLS-TV's studios are located on Fifth Street in Roanoke, and its transmitter is located on Poor Mountain in Roanoke County. It is the third-oldest continuously operating station in Virginia, behind Richmond's WTVR-TV and Norfolk's WTKR, as well as the state's oldest station west of Richmond.
