Electron transfer in nitrogenase catalysis.The inactive MoFe protein (NifB-Kp1) of the nitrogenase from nifB mutants of Klebsiella pneumoniae. Its interaction with FeMo-cofactor and the properties of the active MoFe protein formed.Low-temperature magnetic-circular-dichroism spectroscopy of the iron-molybdenum cofactor and the complementary cofactor-less MoFe protein of Klebsiella pneumoniae nitrogenase.Klebsiella pneumoniae nitrogenase. The pre-steady-state kinetics of MoFe-protein reduction and hydrogen evolution under conditions of limiting electron flux show that the rates of association with the Fe-protein and electron transfer are independentNitrogenase from Klebsiella pneumoniae. An e.p.r. signal observed during enzyme turnover under ethylene is associated with the iron-molybdenum cofactor.
