American Lion is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. A foal of 2007 he was a contender in the 2010 Kentucky Derby. However, he did not finish in the money. American Lion is sired by Horse of the Year, Tiznow, who is the only horse to date to win the Breeders' Cup Classic twice. He is out of the mare Storm Tide, a daughter of Storm Cat. He is bred and owned by WinStar Farm. American Lion won three of his first seven starts. His first major stakes win came in the Hollywood Prevue Stakes at age 2. He later won the Illinois Derby and came in eleventh in the 2010 Kentucky Derby.
