Hemlata Gupta

Hemlata Gupta (d. 2006) was an Indian medical doctor and the director and head of the department of medicine at Lady Hardinge Medical College. Her medical studies were at Lady Hardinge Medical College of the Delhi University where she later became a director. She was a recipient of the Woman of the Year honor of the American Biographical Institute in 1999. The Government of India awarded her the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1998, for her contributions to medical science. She was unmarried and lived in New Delhi when she was found murdered on 13 May 2006 at her residence in Karol Bagh. After years of investigation, the case, which attracted media attention, is still unresolved.
